Petroleum Geochemistry

Petroleum geochemistry is used in the exploration process to analyse and investigate source rocks and any hydrocarbon-rich fluids that may be generated.  The Geochemistry Team at Getech can provide source rock evaluations, oil-source rock correlations, biomarker interpretations, and palynological expertise to our clients.

Getech offers a range of petroleum geochemical skills and expertise to aid in the evaluation of petroleum systems on both a regional and block scale. We can assist clients to investigate the key exploration questions: such as whether a potential, proven, or effective source rock exists in their area of interest. Other questions – such as what are the hydrocarbon generating potential, organic richness, and thermal maturity of these potential sources, and what was the likely depositional environment and type of organic matter present – can also be examined. Furthermore, we can help determine the thermal maturity of the potential source rock, and for mature sources to predict when and where the generation and expulsion of hydrocarbons may have occurred.

Geochemical Data Solutions

Getech offer regional Geochemical datasets of high quality peer-reviewed public data for many of the key petroleum provinces. Our data solutions include all of the standard petroleum geochemical data types used in hydrocarbon exploration, including TOC content, Rock-Eval pyrolysis, vitrinite reflectance, biomarker analysis, and visual kerogen palynological data.

Our data solutions are thoroughly checked and quality controlled to ensure accuracy and ease of use. The Geochemical Data is provided in convenient industry standard formats, such as MS Access and ArcGIS™ geodatabases, that can be quickly imported into your in-house database system, and readily integrated with your own proprietary data.

Regional Reports and Commissions

Petroleum geochemistry is an integral component of Getech’s suite of multi-client Regional Reports products; it helps to characterise and identify key element of petroleum systems and to high grade those plays with good potential. In addition, our expert geochemists can also provide a bespoke assessment of your proprietary analytical data to generate tailored interpretations in your blocks and acreage during licensing rounds.
